The 54th running of the Irish Oaks was held on Saturday 17th July 1948 over 1 1/2 miles of The Curragh, starting at the Howth Post. A pot of 4680 sovereigns was availble, 936 sovereigns to the second and 468 sovereigns to the third. The winner was owned by HH Aga Khan, trained by Hubert Hartigan and ridden by Aubrey Brabazon. The winner won by a length, with a length between second and third. |
